Introduction
The growing acceptance of marijuana as medicine in many states has done wonders for many sick people. If your doctor recommends marijuana for what ails you, here a few tips to growing your own healthy and legal medicine.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need
- Nursery pots
- Potting soil
- Fluorescent light
- Gallon pots
- Metal halide grow-light
Steps
1
Step One
Germinate your seeds by placing them in small starter pots approximately 3 to 4 inches below a fluorescent light. Keep the light on 24-hours a day for 1 or 2 weeks, until the plants begin to sprout.
2
Step Two
Transplant the young sprouts into one-gallon pots and move them underneath a metal-halide agricultural grow light.
3
Step Three
Begin the vegetative or growth process starting a regular schedule of 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness. This tricks the plant into thinking it is spring and time to grow.
4
Step Four
Check your plants for flowering shoots when they are about 18-inches tall. The shoots will stick up at the top of the plant and at the ends of leafy branches.
5
Step Five
Remove the plants that do not produce flowering stems, these are male plants. Male plants can ruin your crop by causing the female plants to produce seeds.
6
Step Six
Change the lighting schedule to 12 hours on, 12 hours off. This convinces the plant that the days are getting shorter and it is time to flower.
7
Step Seven
Harvest your plants after the hairs on the flower buds begin to change color.
Tips & Warnings
- Keep a copy of your prescription and your state licensing card near your garden, in case law enforcement officials question you about your medicine garden.
- Marijuana thrives in temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Don't over-water your medicinal plants.
- If the females spend their energy producing seeds, they will have less energy for producing the medicinal flower.
- Do not attempt to grow marijuana unless you have a legal medical right to it.
