How to Make Pedialyte

Introduction

When you or your child has been ill, it is important to replace the electrolytes in the body to restore natural balance. This electrolyte drink can be made easily with ingredients you already have in your home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need

  • water
  • sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • sugar or honey
  • salt

Steps

1

Step One

Basic recipe: Into four cups of water, stir 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 3 tablespoons sugar or honey.
2

Step Two

To flavor the drink like Pedialyte, you may add 1/2 packet of Kool-aid. Or to make a great sports drink like Gatorade for refreshment after exercise, add the soda and salt to orange juice mixed with water.
3

Step Three

Have the patient sip on this as desired. Refrigerate if a cold drink is preferred.

I noticed this recipe uses considerably more sugar than other pedialyte recipes. The others recommend closer to 3 tsp, rather than 3 tablespoons of sugar.

After further checking, I have seen others with this much sugar and many inbetween.
