How to Calm a Cough With Cayenne Pepper

Introduction

The frustration and irritation of trying to calm a cough can be very trying. A natural remedy that will help relieve the cough that can be found in almost every kitchen spice cupboard. Cayenne pepper taken orally can relieve the cough in moments. Read on to learn more.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 teacup
  • 1 teaspoon
  • Cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 oz. of tap water

Step One

Take a tea cup from the cupboard and add between 1/4 tsp. and 1 full tsp. of cayenne pepper to the bottom of the cup.

Step Two

Add approximately 2 tbsp. of tap water to the cup.

Step Three

Stir the water and cayenne pepper together until the cayenne is dissolved in the water. It will be slightly orange-red in color. It may appear that there are tiny particles suspended in the water. Make sure that there are no large clumps in the bottom of the cup.

Step Four

Swirl the cup slightly and then drink the contents in one gulp.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't get any of the cayenne in your eye.
  • To relieve the burning sensation in your mouth, take a small piece of bread, a drink of milk, or a bite of ice cream.
  • The best approach is to repeat this procedure three times a day until the cough no longer persists. The relief from the cough will be almost immediate and will last at least a few hours.
