How to Make Relaxing Herbal Tea

Introduction

We often lead stressful lives. Our days are spent rushing around and we often don't take time for ourselves. Over time, this amount of stress can have a negative affect on the body.

I have found that drinking a cup of relaxing herbal tea each night can really help. There are certain herbs that can help promote sleep and are also not habit forming like prescription sleeping pills are. Feeling relaxed and sleeping enough are both essential to keep the stress levels in check. Here's how you can make a cup on your own.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Chamomile, lemon balm, oatstraw, passion flower or any herbal blend that is said to promote relaxation
  • A pretty mug
  • Boiling water

Steps

1

Step One

Bring water to a boil in a stainless steel pan or an electric tea pot.
2

Step Two

Choose the herbal tea that you want to drink. To start with, you can pick from the list at the top.
3

Step Three

Place the tea bag in your mug. If you are using loose tea, place it in a tea strainer (follow the instructions on the package for your tea strainer).
4

Step Four

Let the herb steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag or leave it in while you drink it if you want something stronger. Oatstraw and chamomile are two herbs that can be left in the mug for a while.
5

Step Five

Sweeten as desired. You can also add milk. Play some relaxing music or read while you sip your tea.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try a different herb each night to see which one you like best.
  • Let your taste buds rule your choices. Which herbs taste the best to you?
  • Research the herb to make sure it's right for you.
  • Consult with your doctor before trying anything new. Remember, just because it is natural doesn't mean it is safe.
